Consisting of a pencil drawing of a de Havilland Mosquito, plus a photo and ORIGINAL signature of GROUP CAPTAIN LEONARD CHESHIRE, plus his Victoria Cross (replica), plus his military biography.
Group Captain Leonard Cheshire was one of the most courageous and determined bomber leaders of WWII. He flew 4 operational tours, starting with 102 Squadron RAF on Whitleys. He was later with 35 Squadron on Halifaxes and became Squadron Leader in 1942 and appointed Commanding Officer of 76 Squadron.
In July 1942 he took command of 617 Squadron RAF and in September was awarded the Victoria Cross (the highest military award in the UK) for four and a half years of sustained bravery during a total of 102 operations! He led his crews with careful planning, brilliant execution and contempt for danger. He had gained a reputation that was second to none in Bomber Command.
A highlight of his brilliant heroism was ‘target marking’ which he executed in the Mosquito and the P-51 Mustang. On his 103rd mission he was the official British observer of the nuclear bombing of Nagasaki.
After the war, he devoted his life to charities and received many civilian awards.
