Consisting of a pencil drawing of Unteroffizier Fritz Wiener’s Me-109 running up the engines prior to a mission, carrying a bomb, plus a Luftwaffe Eagle (fabric), a pencil portrait of Fritz Wiener, plus the ORIGINAL pencil signatures of Fritz Wiener, Theo Nau and Gerhard Kott, ALL ME-109 PILOTS. Bomb-carrying 109′s were known as ‘Jabos.’
Unteroffizier Fritz Wiener was briefly with Jagdgruppe 200 during the Allied invasion. In October of 1944 he was transferred to II.7/JG-11 and gave support to troops during the Ardennes Offensive. He also flew in Operation Bodenplatte. He was then deployed to Berlin to fight advancing Russian forces. Fritz Wiener was shot down on January 29th, 1945, by Soviet flak.
Leutnant Theo Nau was initially with 7/JG-11 and took part in the Ardennes offensive. He was also in the Bodenplatte mission where he was in combat with Thunderbolts. He was shot down by a Mustang in January 1945 and later joined JG-77 in Czechoslovakia. The last type he flew was the Me 109. At war’s end he was captured by Americans, turned over to the Russians but escaped to West Germany.
Unteroffizier Gerhard Kott joined the Luftwaffe in December of 1941. He finished his fighter pilot training in April of 1943. His first mission was with 10. Sturm JG (Udet) with the Me 109 type. On his second mission he shot down a B-17. Within seconds of destroying the bomber he was attacked by P-51 aircraft and had to bale out. During May and June of 1944 he flew with 4./JG-3, which was equipped with the FW-190 ‘Sturm.’ This aircraft had special protective shielding. His next posting was to 3./JG-4 Sturmgruppe. During the succeeding missions he shot down four B-17’s and one B-24. In October he received the Iron Cross 1st Class. From November 1944 until April 1945 he instructed at a fighter pilot school. After April he was again in action, this time against Soviet forces on the eastern front. At this time he shot down three other planes, a P-2 and two Jak 9’s, for a total of 8 victories.
