Matted ensemble as shown. $1850 (SOLD)
A pencil drawing depicting the famous Luftwaffe ace Werner Mölders describing his recent victory to squadron comrades, plus his ORIGINAL SIGNATURE and photo, plus his Knight’s Cross (replica) and Luftwaffe wings (fabric).
At the outbreak of WWII, Werner Mölders was the most successful German fighter pilot, leading 3./JG53, then III.JG53 on the Western Front. An inspirational fighter leader, he was the first ace to achieve 20 victories, the first awarded the Knight’s Cross, and commanded JG51 during the Battle of Britain. With 68 victories in the west, he transferred to the Russian Front and in July 1941 shot down his 101st enemy aircraft. Again, the first to do so. Promoted to First General of the Fighter Arm, while travelling as a passenger in a Heinkel 111 to the funeral of Ernst Udet, a storm forced the plane down and Mölders was killed. By then, he had achieved 115 victories and held the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves and Diamonds.
